Afloat upon the silken water of dawn
atop her own shimmering reflection
she admires herself in the morning light
like a queen preening before a mirror.
The lobsterman’s boat is an elegant sight.
The curve of her sheer, so graceful and deceptive,
disguises the power she possesses.
A sleek and sinewy roamer
she luxuriates at rest,
like a sated lioness
lying languorous in the sun
when the killing's done.
Sparkling jewels adorning the harbor’s breast
these boats lie at ease in the imperious peace
of those who brave the wind and the waves
of a ferocious sea,
and do so beautifully.
